WHy is the region of hazard in San Fernando broader than that of San Andreas fault near Palmdale?
The large area of high hazard in the valley east of San Fernando is due to the large, northward dipping thrust fault that was the source of the 1971 quake. Why is the region of hazard here broader than the region around the San Andreas fault near Palmdale?
